Biography
James Gillray (b.1757 d.1815) was a British caricaturist. In 1778 he was admitted as a student to the Royal Academy. He became one of the leading caricaturists of the 18th century producing nearly 1000 prints. He created satirical caricatures of British political and social life often directed against George III of England and Napoleon I.
