Biography
Cathy Lomax was born in 1963 in Croydon and lives and works in London. She completed an MA in Fine Art at Central St Martins, London in 2002 and went on to set up Transition Gallery and the art magazines, Arty and Garageland. Her work usually takes the form of groups of paintings and examines a curious contemporary longing for something unobtainable, often focusing on female archetypes and utilising images from popular culture. She has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and her work is in several high profile collections including the David Roberts collection. In 2014 she was Abbey Painting Fellow at the British School at Rome and she was selected for the East London Painting Prize in 2014 and 2015. Other recent exhibitions include Contemporary British Drawing, Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, China, News From Nowhere, William Morris Society, London and American Tan at Dolph, London.
