Biography
Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix (b. 1798 d. 1863), better known as simply Eugène Delacroix, was a French Romantic artist. He is widely regarded as the leader of the French Romantic school. He drew inspiration from Rubens, alongside painters of the Venetian Renaissance. He placed emphasis on colour and movement rather than clarity of outline and modelled form. His later work was characterised by dramatic and romantic content. His work is distinguished by expressive brushstrokes and his observation of the optical effects of colour.
