Biography
Born in 1970, Luke grew up in London and was educated at Eton before taking a First in English and Modern Languages at Oxford. Having subsequently honed his painting skills at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in Chelsea, he began painting professionally in the 1990s. Since then his career and reputation have blossomed, he has regular solo exhibitions in London and a thriving portrait practice. He exhibits publicly, notably achieving Runner-up in the Garrick/Milne portrait competition in 2003. His varied output includes atmospheric views of the Thames, beach scenes and gardens, still lifes and family conversation pieces, as well as the series of designs you can see here on Bridgeman Studio. Luke accompanied Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to India in October 2010 as official Tour Artist. He is President of the Chelsea Art Society. On Bridgeman Studio Luke is proud to show two complete alphabetical series for girls and boys, an Every Girl's Alphabet and an Every Boy's Alphabet, as well as other associated images. Nearly ten years in the making, and based on his observation of his own children, these acrylic paintings evoke the woodcut technique of William Nicholson and have a nostalgic charm, the visual language a contemporary take on a retro theme.
