Biography
Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Nagano. She is known for her avant-garde and eccentric art, which includes paintings, sculptures, installations, and performances. Kusama moved to the United States in the late 1950s and became associated with the Pop Art movement. She gained recognition for her Infinity Net paintings, which feature repetitive patterns of small, circular brushstrokes. Kusama's work often explores themes of infinity, repetition, and the relationship between the individual and the universe. She has also been open about her struggles with mental illness and has used her art as a form of therapy. Kusama has exhibited her work in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London. She continues to create art from her studio in Tokyo.
