Marta Martonfi-Benke was born in1958, Kunszentmarton, Hungary. Marta took up painting in 1990 as a tutee of Janos Bozso. She is a modern age follower of plein-airism, her art is characterised by a deep personal attachment to nature and natural patterns. Her theme is the Hungarian countryside; its plains and towns and especially her hometown capture a sparkling sunlit atmosphere. Additionally, her depictions of eerie, ghostly suburban night scenes are also frequent, introducing a marked juxtaposition in her oeuvre. Landscape elements in her paintings are relatively plastic but she distances herself from pure naturalistic perception by basing compositions on the expressive vigour of complementary colours.
