Biography
Peter Jackson (1922-2003) was a British artist known for his abstract expressionist paintings. Born in Yorkshire, England, Jackson studied at the Leeds College of Art before serving in the Royal Air Force during World War II. After the war, he continued his studies at the Royal College of Art in London. Jackson's early works were influenced by the abstract expressionist movement in America, and he became known for his large-scale, gestural paintings that explored the relationship between color, form, and texture. He exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, and his work is held in collections including the Tate Gallery in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In addition to his painting, Jackson was also a respected teacher, and he taught at a number of art schools in the UK, including the Royal College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art. He was awarded the CBE in 1992 for his services to art. Jackson died in 2003 at the age of 81.
