Henry (Harry) Bedford Lemere was the son of Bedford Lemere, commercial traveller and photographer. In 1881 at age 17 the younger Lemere joined the photographic firm of Bedford Lemere & Co. that his father had founded. At age 18 he was admitted to membership of the Royal Photographic Society, beginning a long and prolific career eventually becoming the president of the Institute of British Photographers in 1930.
