Born in 1951 Jenny spent her childhood in Cornwall, East Africa, and the Isles of Scilly. Barron studied Textiles at Central School of Art, London from 1971-1974. She has designed printed textiles and wallpapers, mainly for the American market, with Chelsea Textile Designs, run and inspired by the late Brigitte Dehnert. Was a Designer and illustrator for Wilscombe Melamine in Somerset, producing designs for kitchen, dining and gift ware, also during this time, began working independently as a botanical painter. In 1988 Barron was awarded the Silver-Gilt Grenfell Medal by the Royal Horticultural Society for a series of paintings of rare magnolias.
