Biography
James Abbott McNeill Whistler (b.1834 d.1903) was an American painter and printmaker. Whistler moved to London in 1860 where he painted numerous nocturnal scenes of the city. He believed in the connection between art and music, giving many of his works musical titles. Whistler became a leading proponent in the belief ‘Art for Art’s Sake’.
