Paul Cézanne (b. 1839 d. 1906) was a French artist within the Post-Impressionist movement. He introduced new modes of representation and subsequently developed an influence over the avant-garde artistic movements of the early 20th century. Cézanne developed a unique and analytical method of building form with colour. His early work, featuring romantic and classical themes, implemented a dark colour palette and expressive brushwork. His later still-life paintings experimented with gradated tonal variations to build dimension.
