At first sight paintings by the Mexican-based artist, Mary Stuart seem whimsical and dreamlike. Some take biblical themes as their subjects such as ‘Adam Naming the Animals’, ‘Jacob’s Dream’ and Eve sleeping with the Tree of Wisdom’. Animals feature strongly, often set in delightfully imaginary spaces. Her works are both charmingly decorative and have a deeper symbolic meaning which make them useful for general illustration.
