Biography
Charlotte Lyon (b. 1956) is a figurative painter from London. She lives and works between Amsterdam and London. Self taught but strongly influenced by both parents; the sculptor Peter Lyon and Toby Lyon, the Portal painter. Her grandfather was Robert Lyon, principle of Edinburgh School of Art and tutor to The Pitmen Painters, recently made into a play by Lee Hall. Her early work has been dominated by the animal form, depicted in twisted sculptural shapes expressing both power and confinement by filling the canvas. Since 2007, her work has taken the form of more fluid sketches in oil and acrylic depicting different professions and city workers, be these of barristers, doctors, waiters or the clergy and questioning how uniforms define our status in society. Her time is divided between England, France and Holland, private commissions and numerous art fairs.
