Larry Bell was born in Chicago in 1939 and spent his student days and early career in California. In 1973, he moved to Taos, New Mexico, which has a standing tradition as an artists' colony. Having been a painter and printmaker, his interests soon turned to sculpture and he developed a life-long fascination with what he terms "interface of light and surface", working with reflective surfaces, particularly glass, edges and corners. Apart from his renowned glass cubes and jagged mirrored outlines, he is also known for his 'stick men' and vapour buildings.

Larry has long been a highly respected artist among the avant garde, having even been visited by Duchamp. His dramatic geometric, angular, sculptural forms have been exhibited extensively throughout the US and internationally. He continues to work today in his studio in New Mexico.
