Biography
Louis Seraphine, also known as Seraphine de Senlis, was a French painter born in 1864 in the town of Arsy. She worked as a shepherd and a factory worker before discovering her passion for painting. Seraphine was a self-taught artist who created vibrant and colorful works of art inspired by nature and her religious beliefs. She used unconventional materials such as cardboard, wood, and glass to create her paintings. Seraphine's work was discovered by the German art collector Wilhelm Uhde, who became her patron and helped her gain recognition in the art world. Seraphine's paintings were exhibited in Paris and New York, and she was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1930. However, her success was short-lived, and she died in poverty in 1942. Seraphine's work was rediscovered in the 1970s and is now considered a significant contribution to the art world.
