Biography
Louis Seraphine, also known as Seraphine de Senlis, was a French painter born in 1864 in the town of Arsy. He worked as a shepherd and a factory worker before discovering his passion for painting. Seraphine was a self-taught artist who created vibrant and colorful works of art inspired by nature and his religious beliefs. He used unconventional materials such as cardboard, wood, and glass to create his paintings. Seraphine's work was discovered by the German art collector Wilhelm Uhde, who became his patron and helped him gain recognition in the art world. Seraphine's paintings were exhibited in Paris and New York, and he was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1930. However, his success was short-lived, and he died in poverty in 1942. Seraphine's work was rediscovered in the 1970s and is now considered a significant contribution to the art world.
