Biography
Hippolyte-Paul Delaroche (b.1797 d.1856), known simply as Paul Delaroche, was a French painter known for his realistic historical scenes. In 1832 Delaroche became a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He established himself as a successful painter with works such as The Execution of Lady Jane Grey (1833). His pupils included Gérôme and Jean-François Millet.
