Biography
John Sutton specialises in marine paintings, scenes of crowded London streets and special events. He was born in Norfolk in 1935 and studied at the Norwich School of Art for several years and then continued his studies at the Brighton College of Art. He later returned to Norfolk where he lives and works as a full time artist.

Sutton’s meticulous and painstaking approach to his work is reminiscent of that of the 17th century Dutch Masters. After returning from sketching tours he transfers the image created onto canvas and then he builds up the picture with layer after layer of pigment and a series of transparent glazes which gives a luminous quality to his work.

John Sutton travels widely; his most recent painting tour being to India and Egypt. Exhibitions of his works are held each year in London.
