Mary Stevenson Cassatt (b.1844 d.1926) known simply as Mary Cassatt, was an American painter. She attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts then went on to spent much of her time in France. At the request of her friend and mentor Degas, Cassatt became part of the group of Impressionists in Paris exhibiting her work at four of their exhibitions. Her paintings of women and children, especially of mother and child, have a relaxed and intimate nature.
