Biography
Georg Baselitz is a German painter, sculptor, and printmaker born in Deutschbaselitz, Saxony, in 1938. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in East Berlin before moving to West Berlin in 1957. Baselitz is known for his figurative paintings, which often depict distorted and inverted human forms. He is associated with the Neo-Expressionist movement and is considered one of the most important German artists of the post-war era. Baselitz's work has been exhibited extensively in Europe and the United States, and he has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to painting, Baselitz has also worked in sculpture and printmaking, and his work is held in the collections of major museums around the world.
