Mark Baring was born at Sanderstead in Surrey, England. His early creativity was channelled into the performing arts; after ballet training with Madame Rambert he danced for a number of years with the International Ballet and the Anglo-Polish Ballet, before turning his hand to oil painting.<br> <br> Baring began painting in Paris in 1956, copying the work of classical artists. Later he explored abstract painting, which further developed his sense of structure and colour and detailed composition. Some distinctive characteristics emerged, including the portrayal of often magnificent architectural elements and, ultimately, an interest in naïve art. <br> <br> Baring’s talent was highlighted by his exhibiting at the Register of Naïve Artists and collectors are numbered in Britain and Europe. His work has been used for greetings cards, calendars and posters.<br>
