Biography
Allen Jones is a British artist born in Southampton in 1937. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London from 1955 to 1960. Jones is known for his pop art style, which often features provocative and sexualized imagery. He gained notoriety in the 1960s for his sculptures of women in fetishistic clothing, such as the infamous "Hatstand, Table and Chair" (1969). Jones also worked in painting and printmaking, and his work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. In addition to his art career, Jones has also worked as a set and costume designer for theater and film productions. He was awarded a CBE in 1982 and was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1986. Today, Jones continues to create art and is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century.
