Biography
Paul Signac (b.1863 d.1935 ) was a French painter who was a leader in developing the artistic technique pointillism. This later became the basis for Neo-Impressionism. Signac was inspired by Georges Seurat, in particular his studies on colour theory. The pointillist technique involved applying pigment in minute dabs with an almost scientific system of application. His watercolours however were treated with a much more free way of painting. Signac assisted in the founding of the Salon des Indépendents and exhibited numerous works here.
