Duncan Grant was a British painter and designer born in 1885. He was a member of the Bloomsbury Group, a circle of artists and writers who were active in the early 20th century. Grant studied at the Westminster School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He was known for his use of bright colors and his interest in the human form. Grant was also a designer, creating textiles, ceramics, and furniture. He worked with the Omega Workshops, a design collective that was active from 1913 to 1919. Grant was openly gay and had a long-term relationship with fellow artist Vanessa Bell. He died in 1978 at the age of 93. Today, his work can be found in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Tate in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
