Georges de la Tour (b.1593 d.1652) was a French painter who is known for his candle lit scenes depicting quiet contemplation. He was highly influenced by the use of chiaroscuro by Caravaggio and adopted the same dramatic lighting in his own work. La Tour established himself as a successful painter, with King Louis XIII and Henry II of Lorraine being among his collectors.
