Biography
Jacques Louis David (b. 1748 d. 1825) was a French painter of the Neoclassical style. He is widely considered to be the preeminent painter of this artistic era. In 1783, he became a member of the Academy and achieved fame during the 1780s with a series of paintings, including 'The Oath of the Horatii'. This series is notable for its thematic and design austerity. He additionally became known for his accomplished portraits.
