MPX5089401: Millionth Cortina Goes by Air. The millionth Ford Cortina car to be exported gets a swinging send-off. It was flown by helicopter on Thursday (9-7-70) across the English Channel from Ford's plant at Dagenham, Essex, to Ostend. Waiting to collect it was the car's buyer, a Belgian. But his cheque for the car was torn up by Britain's Ambassador in Belgium, Sir John Beith, and he got it for nothing. The Cortina has been Britain's top-selling export car since it was introduced almost eight years ago. July 1970 / Bridgeman Images

MPX5092290: The N.A.A.F.I. Sports Dept. gets a big demand from the Forces for tennis balls. Tennis is important in the training of RAF crews - it keys up the eyes to quickly pick out moving objects. The balls are stripped - re-inflated by a chemical pellet put inside and action started by a drip or two of water sealed and recovered. Miss Fanny Wood, age 63, is an expert at recovering the balls. She has been doing it for 42 years, and can deal with 36 dozen a day. May 1943 / Bridgeman Images
