Fashion 1960's. Grannys swimsuit surfaces again. In grandma's day, the outfit on the left would have been looked on as daring, no doubt. Such a saucy display of knee. But on Thursday (28-9-67), half a century or so later, it cropped up again - at a swimwear show in London. Which is fine, if sunburned knees are all you want. Otherwise, thankfully, the bikini is still there. The brief bikini - covered in black and white sequins - costs £12.12s. The other bathing outfit - consisting of several yards of towelling - is only £6.16s. 6d. Both are by Trend Swimwear. September 1967 P017086

Atten-Shun! His Grace the Duke of Atholl, has his very own private army, the Atholl Highlanders. The Duke, commander of the Highlanders, the only private army in Europe musters his forces before marching into action. Not, sad to say, against some robber baron or upstart knight. Instead the target was the capture of more tourists for the Duke's Perthshire castle, Scotland. And it was mission accomplished as hundreds of spectators crowded the lawns to watch the Highlanders being reviewed by their commandant. As the tourists went off to tour the castle as 3s 6d a time, the Highlanders collected their pay - a whisky. The line-up of the Atholl Highlanders in front of Blair Castle and being inspected by the Duke of Atholl. The 36-year-old Duke holds the parade of his private army every year.
