Biography: Son of a shoemaker, probably moved to Vienna from Olomouc around 1580 when the Counter-Reformation took effect, as his family was not Catholic. Moved to Frankfurt as assistant to Lucas van Valckenborch I filling in flowers, fruit, and other elements of still-lifes. Flegel produced 110 watercolours Between ca. 1600-1630.
