Biography
Giuseppe Arcimboldo (b. 1527 d. 1593) was an Italian painter. He was known for designing imaginative portrait heads constructed of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books. This was known as a new style, 'composite heads'. These works are very distinct from his other pieces. His art can be considered within the Mannerist tradition.
