Biography
Giovanni Antonio Canal (b. 1697 d. 1768), best known as simply Canaletto, was an Italian painter. He was the son of a theatrical scene painter. The Venetian artist was considered to be one of the most significant members of the 18th century Italian school. He was a particularly influential artist, well known for his precise renderings and stunning views of the city Vedute. His early work was created for local patrons, these are his most accomplished pieces.
